“When the Whole World Is Against You” Psalm 3 (Eastside Baptist/Wed PM April 17, 2013)
Psalm 3:1-2
LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him."
Psalm 3:3
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
Psalm 3:4
I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
Psalm 3:5
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
Psalm 3:6
I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
Psalm 3:7
Arise, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
Psalm 3:8
From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
When the whole world is against us…
- We need to cry out to God for help (vv. 1-4).
Psalm 3:1-2
LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him."
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Psalm 3:3
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
Psalm 3:4
I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
1 John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
1 John 5:15
And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- We need to trust God (vv. 5-6).
Psalm 3:5
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

- Trust in God results in hope (vv. 7-8).
Verse 1: “How many rise up against me!”
Verse 7: “Arise, Lord!”
Verse 2: “Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’”
Verse 7: “Deliver me, my God!”
Psalm 3:7
Arise, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
Psalm 3:8
From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
Main Idea:
There is hope in the midst of despair, because God is faithful to his people.
