“The Good Shepherd”: Psalm 23 (Eastside Baptist/Sun PM June 9, 2013)
Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Psalm 23:2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
Psalm 23:3
he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23:6
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
1. We must trust God because He is the Good Shepherd.
…who owns us
…who provides for us
…who guides us
Psalm 106:8
Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known.
…who comforts us
…who protects us
…who loves us
Deuteronomy 7:7
The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
Deuteronomy 7:8
But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
2. We must trust God without reservation in every area of our lives.
…with our physical needs
…with our emotional needs
…with our spiritual needs
3. We must not fail to trust God when we are in the midst of trouble.
…with trust not doubt
…which results in strengthened faith
Main Idea
We must trust God without reservation in every area of our lives, because He is our Good Shepherd.
