Romans 8:1–2 (NIV)
8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Greatest Chapter in the Bible?
Therefore…
(Romans 5:1, NIV) Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
(Romans 5:9-10, NIV) Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
(Romans 5:18-21, NIV) Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. 20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1. Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are not condemned!
2. The Holy Spirit (through Christ) has set us free from the power/reign of sin and death.
a. Free from the penalty of sin = death (justification).
b. Free from the power of sin (sanctification).
(Romans 6:1-2, NIV) What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
(Romans 6:6-7, NIV) For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Implications:
a. We are viewed judicially by God as not condemned.
b. Because we have been set free from the power of sin, we are now empowered to live a new life.
Main Idea: As believers in Christ, we are not going to be condemned by sin, and in the present we don’t have to live in sin. We have been forgiven, and we have been set free.
