“Jesus, the Giver of Life” (John 5:24–30) (Eastside Baptist/Sun AM/August 18, 2013)
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.

Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. (Jn. 10:3, NIV)

1. In this age, Jesus the Savior raises the spiritually dead.
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, (Eph. 2:1, NIV)
All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. (Eph. 2:3, NIV)
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (Jn. 3:3, NIV)
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (Jn. 3:5, NIV)
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (Jn. 3:8, NIV)
For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. (Jn. 5:26-27, NIV)
2. In the age to come, Jesus the Judge will raise the physically dead.
"Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. (Jn. 5:28-29, NIV)
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (Dan. 12:2, NIV)
By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. (Jn. 5:30, NIV)
Main Idea
As the Messiah, the Son of God, Jesus has full authority to give life-both now and at the last day.
