Look, the Lamb of God: John 1:19-34
John 1:19–34
1. We need to understand who we are.
He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Messiah."- John 1:20 -
They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." - John 1:21 -
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.'" - John 1:23 -
Now the Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" - John 1:24-25 -
"I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know. - John 1:26 -
He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie." - John 1:27 –
2. We need to understand who Jesus is.
This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' - John 1:30 -
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.'" - John 1:23 -
A voice of one calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.- Isaiah 40:3 -
I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God." - John 1:34 -
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.- John 20:31 -
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! - John 1:29 -
You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish."- John 11:50 -
He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,- John 11:51 -
and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.- John 11:52 -
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.- 1 John 2:2 -
And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.- Revelation 5:9 -
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."- Revelation 5:10 -
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.- John 3:16 -
I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel."- John 1:31 -
Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.- John 1:32 -
And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'- John 1:33 -
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.- John 3:5 -
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'- John 3:6-7 -
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." - John 3:8 -
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. - John 5:21 -
"When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. - John 15:26-27 -
Main Idea:
We are sinners in need of a savior, and Jesus is the only Savior.
We are imperfect and unworthy witnesses to Jesus, the only Savior this world will ever have.
"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! - John 1:29 -
