1 Peter 5:1
To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:
1 Peter 5:2
Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them--
1 Peter 5:2 (NIV ’84)

From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.
Acts 20:28
Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

1 Peter 5:2 (NIV ’84)
Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—
- Not because you have to, but because you want to.
1 Peter 5:2
not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be;
1 Timothy 3:1
Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task.
Not because of the money you can acquire, but because of your enthusiasm for ministry.
1 Peter 5:2
not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;
1 Timothy 5:17
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.
1 Timothy 5:18
For Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages."
1 Timothy 3:3
not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
Not because of the desire for power or recognition, but because of the impact your life makes on others.
1 Peter 5:3
not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
1 Peter 5:4
And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
2 Timothy 4:8
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
1 Peter 5:5a
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders.
1 John 5:21
Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
Hebrews 13:17
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
Main Idea:
· Elders (pastors) are to shepherd the church in the right way and for the right motives…
· with members submitting to the leaders…
· because the church belongs to God.
