Sharing God’s Grace: 1 Peter 4:7-11 (Eastside, Wed PM, March 6, 2013)
Review
Ø Live as God’s exiles in a hostile world (2:11-4:11).
· Testify to the gospel in every sphere of life (2:11-3:12).
· Respond in a godly way to suffering (3:13-4:11).
- Share God’s grace with others (4:7-11).
- Our earthly pilgrimage will soon be over, so devote yourselves to disciplined prayer.
1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
- Give to others the grace that you have been given...
By earnestly loving them.
1 Peter 4:8
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
- Give to others the grace that you have been given...
By showing hospitality.
1 Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
- Give to others the grace that you have been given...
By serving them with your abilities and resources.
1 Peter 4:10
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:11a
If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides,
- Share God’s grace with others in such a way that God gets all the glory.
1 Peter 4:11b
so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Main Idea:
In light of the imminent end of our pilgrimage…
pray earnestly
share with others the grace that you have been given
so that God gets the glory.
