>1 Peter 1:1–2(NIV) ¹Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia ²who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

• God’s electing grace is grounded in his own will to love and mercy, not in anything in us (v. 2).

1 Peter 1:2(NRSV) ²who have been chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit to be obedient to Jesus Christ and to be sprinkled with his blood: May grace and peace be yours in abundance. 1 Peter 1:2(NLT) ²God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy.
