“Faithfulness” (Eastside Baptist/Sun PM/August 25, 2013)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23, NIV)1. Faithfulness is defined by God’s dependability and trustworthiness. a. God is faithful. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, (Exod. 34:6, NIV)Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. (Deut. 7:9, NIV)He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. (Deut. 32:4, NIV)"Now therefore, our God, the great God, mighty and awesome, who keeps his covenant of love, do not let all this hardship seem trifling in your eyes--the hardship that has come on us, on our kings and leaders, on our priests and prophets, on our ancestors and all your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today. 33 In all that has happened to us, you have remained righteous; you have acted faithfully, while we acted wickedly. 34 Our kings, our leaders, our priests and our ancestors did not follow your law; they did not pay attention to your commands or the statutes you warned them to keep. (Neh. 9:32-34, NIV)For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. (Ps. 33:4, NIV)5 Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. (Ps. 36:5, NIV)22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23, NIV)No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Co. 10:13, NIV)But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thess. 3:3, NIV)If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn. 1:9, NIV)8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Co. 1:8-9, NIV)May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. (1 Thess. 5:23-24, NIV)being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:6, NIV)b. God is worthy of our faith, because he is faithful. 2. Our faithfulness should be based on our faith in God and modeled after God’s faithful character. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. (2 Pet. 1:5-7, NIV)a. We should be faithful/dependable in our obedience to Christ and His Word. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. (Gen. 6:9, NIV)When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. (Gen. 17:1, NIV)The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.' 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' (Matt. 25:20-21, NIV)Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor's crown. (Rev. 2:10, NIV) b. We should be faithful/dependable in our relationships with others."Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. (Matt. 23:23, NIV)i. We should be honest in our speech with one another.ii. We should be dependable in keeping our word and commitments/obligations.As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so are sluggards to those who send them. (Prov. 10:26, NIV) iii. We should be loyal to our family, church, and friends. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, (1 Tim. 3:2, NIV)iv. We should be faithful even when it costs us personally.LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? 2 The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; 3 whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; 4 who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the LORD; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; (Ps. 15:1-4, NIV)Big Idea: As God’s children, we should be faithful in all our commitments and relationships just as our Heavenly Father is faithful.

“Jesus’ Witnesses” (John 5:31–47) (Eastside Baptist/Sun AM/August 25, 2013)"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true. (Jn. 5:31-32, NIV)1. The Witness of John the Baptist"You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. (Jn. 5:33-34, NIV)John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light. (Jn. 5:35, NIV)2. The Witness of God the Father"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish--the very works that I am doing--testify that the Father has sent me. (Jn. 5:36, NIV)And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. (Jn. 5:37-38, NIV)3. The Witness of the ScripturesYou study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (Jn. 5:39-40, NIV)"I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. (Jn. 5:41-42, NIV)I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. (Jn. 5:43, NIV)How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (Jn. 5:44, NIV)How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (Jn. 5:44, NIV)4. The Witness of Moses"But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. (Jn. 5:45, NIV)If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" (Jn. 5:46-47, NIV)Main IdeaEvery true witness corroborates Jesus’ testimony that he is in fact the divine, Son of God.ImplicationAll those who belong to God accept the truthfulness of that testimony, believe in God’s Son Jesus Christ, and have eternal life."Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. (Jn. 5:24, NIV)

Build God’s House: The Message of Haggai (Eastside Baptist/Wed PM/August 21, 2013)Setting and ContextHaggai – “my feast”Ministered in JerusalemContemporary of Zechariah“The Goad of God”Served in post-exilic Judah520 to 516 B.C.4 Oracles all from 520 B.C.538 B.C. – first Jews return to Jerusalem under Zerubbabel.536 – foundation for temple laid, then opposition536-520 – no work on temple520 – Haggai sent by God to spur people to work on templeStructure & MessageThe Call to Rebuild the Temple (1:1-15)The Glory of the 2nd Temple (2:1-9)A Defiled People Purified and Blessed (2:10-19)Message to Zerubbabel (2:20-23)Call to Rebuild Temple (1:1-15)Misplaced Priorities – their houses over God’s House.Curse of Futility – their crops weren’t producing because of their misplaced priorities.Haggai calls them to repent and build – and they obey!Haggai 1:4"Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?"Haggai 1:6You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."Haggai 1:9"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.Deuteronomy 28:38You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it. Deuteronomy 28:39You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them. Deuteronomy 28:40You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off.Haggai 1:7-8This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD. Glory of the 2nd Temple (2:1-9)The temple they were building didn’t look as glorious as the one Solomon built or the one described in Ezekiel 40-43.Yet, God promises that this 2nd temple will be more glorious than the 1st – because God’s Messiah, Jesus, will fulfill it.Haggai 2:3'Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? Haggai 2:4But now be strong, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty. Haggai 2:6"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. (Hag. 2:6, NIV)Haggai 2:7I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, ' says the LORD Almighty. (Hag. 2:7, NIV)Haggai 2:9'The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace, ' declares the LORD Almighty."People Purified & Blessed (2:10-19)Two Questions about ceremonial defilement & consecration.Implication is that defilement spreads and affects the whole. The people and land were defiled by their own sin.But God will mercifully purify them and bless them.Haggai 2:19Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. "'From this day on I will bless you.'" Message to Zerubbabel (2:20-23)Zerubbabel, an heir of David’s throne but vassal of Persia is promised future glory as God’s “signet ring.” (see Jer. 22:24-25)Has typological implications that will be ultimately fulfilled in the final heir of David, Jesus.Haggai 2:21"Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. Haggai 2:22I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.Haggai 2:23"'On that day, ' declares the LORD Almighty, 'I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,' declares the LORD, 'and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,' declares the LORD Almighty."Important ThemesGod’s glory and honor are supreme. His glory must not be in competition with our selfish pursuits.God will chastise his own people in order to make them holy and bring himself honor.God kept his promises to his people that he sent into exile. He restored a remnant and blessed them in the land.God takes defiled, unworthy sinners and purifies them and blesses them. The past glories of God’s presence among his covenant people is nothing in comparison to his glorious presence that is still coming in the culmination of all things.“Jesus Lens” and ApplicationGod’s special presence is no longer localized in a Temple building. Jesus has come and is “God with Us.” He is the greater Temple. Now that Jesus has come, God’s Spirit lives in the church, and we are God’s Temple.1 Corinthians 3:9For we are co-workers in God's service; you are God's field, God's building. 1 Corinthians 3:16Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. 1 Peter 2:5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. So, today the application of Haggai is to build the church of Jesus Christ, which is not a building, but a community of believers for the glory of God.One day, the full and glorious presence of God will be fulfilled in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Revelation 21:1Then I saw "a new heaven and a new earth," for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. Revelation 21:2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. Revelation 21:3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Kindness and Goodness - Cameron Jungles - 8-18-2013 PM

Sunday Aug 18, 2013
“Kindness and Goodness” (Eastside Baptist/Sun PM/August 18, 2013)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23, NIV)1. God’s disposition of kindness and goodness serves as our model of kindness and goodness.4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? (Rom. 2:4, NIV)4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (Eph. 2:4-7, NIV)8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. (Eph. 2:8-9, NIV)3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Tit. 3:3-7, NIV)Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy." (Acts 14:17, NIV)2. We must follow God’s example by being kind and good to others. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph. 2:10, NIV)12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Col. 3:12-14, NIV)Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (1 Co. 13:4, NIV)Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Eph. 4:32, NIV)But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. (Lk. 6:35-36, NIV)Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Gal. 6:10, NIV)Main Idea: God’s kindness to us should overflow and should result in our disposition of kindness and acts of goodness to others.

John 5:24–30 - Cameron Jungles 8-18-2013 AM
Sunday Aug 18, 2013
Sunday Aug 18, 2013
“Jesus, the Giver of Life” (John 5:24–30) (Eastside Baptist/Sun AM/August 18, 2013)For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (Jn. 5:21, NIV)Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, (Jn. 5:22, NIV)"Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. (Jn. 5:24, NIV)The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. (Jn. 10:3, NIV)When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. (Jn. 10:4, NIV)"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. (Jn. 10:14-15, NIV)I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. (Jn. 10:16, NIV)Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. (Jn. 10:25-26, NIV)My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. (Jn. 10:27-28, NIV)My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." (Jn. 10:29-30, NIV)For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (Jn. 5:21, NIV)Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. (Jn. 5:25, NIV)"Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. (Jn. 5:24, NIV)1. In this age, Jesus the Savior raises the spiritually dead.As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, (Eph. 2:1, NIV)in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. (Eph. 2:2, NIV)All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. (Eph. 2:3, NIV)But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.(Eph. 2:4-5, NIV)Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (Jn. 3:3, NIV)Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (Jn. 3:5, NIV)The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (Jn. 3:8, NIV)For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. (Jn. 5:26-27, NIV)2. In the age to come, Jesus the Judge will raise the physically dead."Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. (Jn. 5:28-29, NIV)Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (Dan. 12:2, NIV)Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. (Dan. 12:3, NIV)By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. (Jn. 5:30, NIV)Main IdeaAs the Messiah, the Son of God, Jesus has full authority to give life-both now and at the last day.

The Fruit of Patience” Galatians 5:22-23 Cameron Jungles 8-11-2013 PM
Sunday Aug 11, 2013
Sunday Aug 11, 2013
“The Fruit of Patience” (Eastside Baptist/Sun PM/August 11, 2013)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23, NIV)1. Our patience must be patterned after the patience of God.And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, (Exod. 34:6, NIV)23 "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26 "At this the servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 28 "But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded. 29 "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.' 30 "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 "Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. 35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart." (Matt. 18:23-35, NIV)2. Our patience must be displayed in the circumstances of life.but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isa. 40:31, NIV)3. Our patience must be displayed in our relationships with others.a. Patiently bearing the mistreatment of others. 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. (1 Pet. 2:23, NIV)17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. (Rom. 12:17-19, NIV)b. Patiently bearing the provocation of others.8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. (Ps. 103:8, NIV)c. Patiently tolerating the shortcomings of others.2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Eph. 4:2-3, NIV)4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (1 Co. 13:4-5, NIV)8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Pet. 4:8, NIV)12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. (Col. 3:12-15, NIV)Main Idea: If we are going to be like our patient God, then we must patiently endure the difficult circumstances of life, and we must patiently bear the mistreatment, provocation, and shortcomings of others.

“Honoring Jesus the Son of God” (John 5:19–23) (Eastside Baptist/Sun AM/August 11, 2013)So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. (Jn. 5:16, NIV)In his defense Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working." (Jn. 5:17, NIV)For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (Jn. 5:18, NIV)Key Question:How can Jesus, a man, claim equality with God, but this not be regarded as blasphemy? 1. Unity of Purpose, Power, and WorksJesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. (Jn. 5:19, NIV)For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. (Jn. 5:20, NIV)2. Sharing of Life-Giving PowerFor just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (Jn. 5:21, NIV)3. Delegation of Judicial AuthorityMoreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, (Jn. 5:22, NIV)4. Equality of Honorthat all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. (Jn. 5:23, NIV)Main IdeaAs the one and only Son of God, who is one with the Father in purpose, power, and works, Jesus is worthy of the same honor as God.

Isaiah 41:8-14(KJV) 8But
thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of
Abraham my friend. 9Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the
earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee,
Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. 10Fear thou not; for I am
with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my
righteousness. 11Behold, all
they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall
be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find
them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee
shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. 13For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand,
saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. 14Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of
Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of
Israel. Isaiah 43:1(KJV) 1But now
thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O
Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy
name; thou art mine.

Our Eyes Are Upon You - Venlon Bradford - 8-4-132 Chronicles 20:1-37(KJV) 1It came to pass after this also, that the
children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside
the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. 2Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying,
There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side
Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. 3And Jehoshaphat feared, and set
himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4And Judah gathered themselves
together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah
they came to seek the LORD. 5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah
and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, 6And said, O LORD God of our
fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all
the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and
might, so that none is able to withstand thee? 7Art not thou our God, who didst drive
out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the
seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? 8And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a
sanctuary therein for thy name, saying, 9If, when evil cometh upon us, as the
sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in
thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou wilt hear and help. 10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and
mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the
land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not; 11Behold, I say, how they
reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to
inherit. 12O our God, wilt
thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh
against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. 13And all Judah stood before the
LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. 14Then upon Jahaziel the son of
Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite
of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the
congregation; 15And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason
of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16To morrow go ye down against
them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the
end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. 17Ye shall not need to fight in
this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation
of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you. 18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head
with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of
Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. 19And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites,
and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel
with a loud voice on high. 20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth
into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and
said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD
your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye
prosper. 21And when he had
consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should
praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say,
Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD
set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were
come against Judah; and they were smitten. 23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against
the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when
they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy
another. 24And when Judah
came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude,
and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none
escaped. 25And when
Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among
them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which
they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were
three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much. 26And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in
the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of
the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day. 27Then they returned, every man
of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to
Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. 28And they came to Jerusalem
with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD. 29And the fear of God was on all
the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought
against the enemies of Israel. 30So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God
gave him rest round about. 31And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was
thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five
years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of
Shilhi. 32And he walked in
the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was
right in the sight of the LORD. 33Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as
yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers. 34Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu
the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of
Israel. 35And after this did
Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very
wickedly: 36And he joined
himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in
Eziongaber. 37Then Eliezer
the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because
thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the
ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
